McDonald's unveils its new healthy fast-food menu, joining other chain restaurants in the country's battle against obesity.

While some offer low-carb sandwiches, McDonald's introduced a salad-and-bottled water Happy Meal.

The company says it wants to help promote better health for Americans.

Coming soon to a McDonald's near you: Adult Happy Meals, featuring salad, bottled water, pedometer and a little bit of advice: Walk more."

Ray Kroc, who held distribution rights to the five-pronged Multimixer, heard of a place called McDonald's that had eight of his mixers going at once.

He approached the McDonald brothers, Dick and Mac, about opening more restaurants. Imagine all the Multimixers he'd sell if there were more restaurants like the one run by the McDonalds.

And so Kroc opened the first of many McDonald's franchises to come - more than 30,000 restaurants in 119 countries serving 47 million people daily. Today the Des Plaines restaurant is a McDonald's museum. It houses, among other things, the Multimixer.

A fast-food loving beauty queen from Missouri was crowned Miss USA 2004 in the annual pageant.

Shandi Finnessey, 25, won the title Monday night over 50 other contestants who competed in swimsuit and evening gown.

Finnessey, who said her favorite food is a supersized extra-value meal from McDonald's, will represent the United States at the Miss Universe pageant in Quito, Ecuador, on June 1.
