Double Down Throwdown: Our Homemade Version Takes on KFC's | Serious Eats: "By now, everyone knows what this is, right? It's the new Double Down 'sandwich' from KFC. Two slices of bacon, two slices of cheese, and a big squirt of the 'Colonel's Special Sauce' sandwiched between two deep-fried chicken cutlets in lieu of bread. Most people online seem to be in agreement, with Sam Sifton leading the charge: This thing is gross."
Kids Who Can't Even Read Recognize Logos For McDonald's, Disney And... Toyota? - The Consumerist: "The study, which involved 38 Australian preschool children ages 3 to nearly 5 years old, found that while the children were not yet able to read, they often knew exactly which logo corresponded with which brand. Certain logos -- including those for fast food chains (McDonald's), entertainment companies (Disney, the parent company of ABC News, and Warner Brothers) and cars (Toyota) -- proved especially recognizable. Others, including those for clothing (Nike) and personal care (Kleenex), fared considerably worse. (No children in the study recognized the Kleenex logo. Kleenex spokesman Joey Mooring said he was unfamiliar with the study but added that Kleenex's 'primary consumer demographic' is 'moms.')"
Fast Food Fever Team Consumed by KFC Double Down Sandwich
What can we say - we went yesterday to eat a KFC Double Down - the much anticipated joke sandwich created by Tracy Morgan on 30 Rock. What's in a double down? Well - there's no bread just chicken breasts (grilled or regular) on each side with cheese, bacon, and spicy mayo in the middle. The result?
Well - we were quickly overwhelmed and got about halfway through. We think there's just too much cheese and mayo - this whole thing though felt naughty and over the top so whatever - it's amazing they made it.
Reader Not Impressed With Reality Of KFC Double Down - The Consumerist: "Consumerist reader Bill popped into his local KFC in Houston today and found that they were selling the already infamous Double Down -- better known as bacon and cheese wedged between slabs of fried chicken. And, as often happens when confronted with fast food that looks good in ads, Bill was a little let down by what he found inside.
Says Bill, who snapped these side-by-side pics of both the fried and grilled versions of the sandwich, 'The KFC Double Down 'sandwich' looked a lot better in the advertising photos... This is something I'll only be buying once; they're expensive! $4.99 each.'"
